The Moon as a symbol

Does it symbolise hope or unreachable and unattainable dreams?

The moon can mean different things for different characters in the play. What do you think?

the moon is a symbol in the play, and it could represent a few things.
it could represent hopes and dreams that are way out of reach, just like the moon. the fact that dreams are alluring and enticing as they are always lighted up and they seem so beautiful, but most dreams are so far fetched that they always remain out of reach.
we can say that the moon is an allusion to something like Cinderella for amanda, and it symbolises realisation of dreams and fairytale endings.
she keeps imagining that her daughter will have a fairy tale ending , where she is rescued out of her distress by her Prince charming, just like cinderella. In amanda's dreams and hopes, Jim is someone that they all wait for, someone who can rescue Laura with a happy ending. When Amanda asks her daughter to wish on a "little silver slipper of a moon" , the way she describes the moon seems to be like a reference to cinderella. perhaps she hopes that her daughter's mundane life would suddenly turn out like cinderella's fairy tale, glamourous at the end.

i'm not sure if it's right, but it's just a thought.
